- Excite Search A full-text search engine - search for keywords, phrases, concepts. Better at turning up relevant links than some engines. Results can be limited to reviewed sites and Usenet.
- HotBot A full-text search engine - search keywords, phrases, or URLs (URL search more restrictive than AltaVista). Seems to have the most recently updated database of Web and Usenet pages.
- InfoSeek A newly revised full-text search engine - search keywords, phrases, or URLs. Click on InfoSeek (above) to use their new types of queries. Simple searches can be done from the form below.
- Lycos An abstract-based search engine (it considers the first lines of a document) - search key words.
- WebCrawler A full-text search engine - search keywords. Easy to use. Searches can be limited to "WebCrawler Select," sites that have been reviewed by the staff.
- Yahoo An engine that searches primarily Web sites that have been submitted by Webmasters and categorized by the Yahoo staff. Search keywords. A good place to start. Output is not prioritized, so you may have to look through a number of hits for what you're actually after.
- DejaNews - UseNet only - Provides latest contributions to newsgroups.
