Scrapbook:

Photos from the St. Mary's Homecoming, October 2003

Poston children again ring the bells of St. Mary's!

The main altar is an example of a distinctively Catholic style of thinking, figuralism: our Sunday readings from the Old Testament are echoed in the Epistle and the Gospel. God's will moves through human events like energy moves through water, creating waves which are different but which look like one another. These resemblances are figurae, which can help us to understand what God wants us to know of His plan, when we are properly instructed through the preaching and teaching offices.

In this altar, we see three types, or figurations of the sacrifice.

left panel of the main altar: the priest-king Melchisidech offers bread and wine for the sake of the people.

right panel of main altar: the patriarch Abraham shows his willingness to offer his beloved son Isaac

the center panel of the main altar: the scene at the core of our faith, where what Melchisdech and Abraham prefigured have their fulfillment: the Last Supper.

The confessional now serves as a closet.

One of the church's treasures, and a votive donation from 1904: the Italian  "Mother of Sorrows," one of only three copies in the world.
