  Dissertation Qualifications

• I received my doctoral degree in speech communication (August 2002).

• The subject of my dissertation was date rape.

• I concentrated on male/female dating relationships in my research.

• The following is a sampling of the data I gathered.

• The purpose of this site is to suggest strategies to prevent a sexual assault. 

  What This Site Is Not

• The primary purpose is not to provide education.

• This site is not intended to be an outlet for counseling. If you are in need of advice, I recommend that you contact counseling services in your community.

  Content of Site

• Date Rape Prevention Scripts

  • The prevention scripts I propose are intended for girls and women to revise and personalize.

  • These scripts should be customized to reflect individual personalities.

• Prevention Recommendations

  • Given the complexity of human interaction, readers should be aware that these recommendations will NOT necessarily guarantee protection from sexual assault.

  • The crucial elements of any verbal rejection to a male's sexual initiative are explicit and direct messages.

  • My research also stresses how important it is for girls and women on dates to take control of the situation at the earliest possible moment.

• Research Findings

  • In my research, it became evident that female date rape victims felt responsible for what happened because of societal insinuation.

  • The responsibility should be placed instead on the male date rapists.

  • The sex offenders' self-centeredness and relentless pursuit to achieve their sexual intent are at the root of this social problem that affects so many innocent females in our society.

   

  My Hopes for This Site

• Women utilizing this approach to date rape prevention will get a glimpse at the genuine personality of their male date partners.

• The scripts offered are alternatives to the indirect talk typical of girls and women, as research indicates.  (This indirect manner of speaking may be perceived by a man as a waffling attitude, simply requiring more pressure to convince a woman to have sex.)

• Although this site is a work in progress, my highest priority is to get the recently revised and enhanced site up and running so potential female victims can see the language of the scripts and character profile information in order to avoid potential sexual assault.

• This site is intended to give enough description of a date rapist in terms of his personality, his dating approaches, and how society has influenced him so that female readers are able to recognize him and avoid sexual assault.

  Input is Needed from You

• I request successful verbal statements used to prevent date rape so that I may share them with others.

• I am also looking for the remarks and behaviors expressed by the potential date rapist upon hearing the female's successful rejection of sex.

  • I believe the male dating partner will express himself in the truest manner.

  • Information concerning this type of individual will offer useful insights to both researchers as well as girls and women on dates.

• I will know if the message of this site is being received if I receive e-mails from women volunteering their own real stories.
