  Indirect Verbal Rejection

There were numerous indirect verbal negations employed by the female victims that explained to male assailants why the two should not have sex.

They were:

  • “Don’t you think we should go?” (Interview 2)

  • “Let’s stop and talk.” (Interview 3)

  • “Well, I’m not that type of girl.” (Interview 7)

  • “Let’s just have a good time.” (Interview 10)

  • “Why are you trying to make me do this?” (Interview 14)

  • “Let’s just call it a day.” (Interview 16)

  • “It’s gettin’ kinda late.” (Interview 16)

  • “I’m nervous; there’s people not too far away from us.” (Interview 16)

  • “Well, you don’t have a condom.” (Interview 16 & 18)

  • “Well, I’m still having my period.” (Interviews 16 and 18)

  • “No!  I’ve got a tampon in.” (Interview 18)
