Assuming that the grading scale does not change from 90-80-70-60 (which it probably won't), here are target totals for each grade:
                               90% = A =   972 points
                               80% = B =   864 points
                               70% = A =   756 points
                               80% = A =   648 points

The final exam will be Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 9:30-11:20 AM.  Please bring a pencil and don't forget a calculator!  The exam consists of 40 multiple choice questions and 6 short answer question and problems.

11/24

Complete solution to the equilibrium problem we set up in class today.  The problem was number 31 from the back of chapter 15.

11/20

Quiz 9 was distributed in class and is due by noon Tuesday, Dec. 2.  A copy of the quiz is available through the EXAM link.

11/17

Class data for chemical equilibrium lab.

11/13

Quiz 8 was distributed in class and is due at the start of class Monday, Nov. 17.  A copy of the quiz is available through the EXAM link.

11/11

Class data for kinetics lab.

11/4

Class data for enthalpy by calorimetry lab.

10/31

As we move through chapter 19, you will come across some concepts from chapters we haven't covered yet, particularly the concept of equilibrium.  Therefore, the problems and topics that focus heavily on equilibrium will not be included in our discussion of entropy and free energy and will not be on the exam on Nov. 7.  This pertains mostly to the discussion on pages 802-809 and problems that utilize equilibrium constants (such as Kp and Kc)

10/29

Class data for [DCIP].

10/20

Second chance opportunity for Exam 2.

10/15

Solutions to the optional practice problems distributed 10/8.

10/8

We will have a problem-solving/questions session from 7:30-9:00PM Wednesday, October 15 in MG1096 in preparation for Thursday's exam.

10/7

As an opportunity to reclaim some quiz points, you may complete these Optional Practice Problems.  Due at the start of class Wednesday, October 15.

10/6

Proposals for the vitamin C lab are due in class Monday, October 13, following these guidelines.  These can be brief (< 1 page), and should address the items discussed in the Vitamin C lab document.  Be creative, but be conscious that you will need to finish your experiment in a single lab period.

10/6

Compilation of class data for for Alum Lab, week 3.

9/29

Some "homework" problems related to stoichiometry and solution-phase reactions.  Due at the start of class Friday, Oct. 3.  Solutions key is available on the "Exams" link.

9/22

Compilation of class data for for Alum Lab, week 2.

9/22

Here are some tips for Alum Lab, Week 2.

9/17

The lab writeup for the first week of the Alum lab will be due during your lab section the week of September 29.  Writeups for weeks two and three will be due the week of October 13.  See the lab schedule for all lab due dates.

9/3 If you want to double-check your work on the error propagation examples from class on 9/3, here are my solutions.
8/29 Here are some tips and reminders for quantitative calculations.
8/29 Learn some interesting chemistry and earn some extra credit!
Here's how.
8/26 Tuesday and Thursday lab sections will meet in MG1096 the first week of classes for the Toledo exam.
8/25 The Blackboard site for the Lab Safety and Health information is now live.  On blackboard, you should find a course called FALL08:CHEM120 Chem Princ I Combined.  At that course, you will find instructions for completing the material required.  Remember, All paperwork is due no later than Friday, August 29 at 5 pm.
8/25 Have questions?  Need extra help?  You have several resources available:

1.  Come and see me!  I have office hours posted on my schedule or will make an appointment with you!
2.  Visit the Chemistry Contact Center.  It is staffed by chemistry faculty who are there to help.
3.  Visit AXE tutoring.  AXE offers free, walk in tutoring Sunday through Thursday nights from 7:00-9:00 in MG2003.

8/22 During the first week of class (August 25-29) each lab section will meet at its normal time (11:30) for about an hour.  There will be no lab the week of Labor Day (Sept. 1).
8/18 A draft of the course syllabus is now available and can be found by clicking on the "Syllabus" link at the left.  A final version of the syllabus will be distributed in class.
8/11 Textbook shopping?  We'll be using "General Chemistry" 9th edition, by Pertrucci, Harwood, Herring and Madura. We used this book for the last years so there are several used copies available.
