Databases:  Online indexes of scholarly journals and popular magazines dealing with issues in political science.

Social Science Abstracts: Citations from over 300 journals covering all the social sciences; coverage from 1983 onward

SocIndex with Full Text.  Comprehensive sociology research database with full text for over 400 journals, 700 books and 6000 conference papers.

LexisNexis Academic: Business resources with coverage of accounting literature and company information.  Also covers legal cases (state and federal), law reviews, and newspapers (some back to the early 1980s).  Mostly full text.

LexisNexis Congressional: Full text federal government information, including bills and laws, congressional testimony, and voting records. Links to other sites for government information. 

America: History and Life: Scholarly journals in American history, politics, and culture.  Some full text links to articles through the JSTOR database.

 

Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center:  Information on current social issues, including viewpoint articles, topic overviews, full-text magazine and newspaper articles, primary source documents, statistics, images, podcasts, and other website links.

 

General Databases: Databases less specific to political science but sources for related articles and information

Academic Search Elite:  Database accessed through EBSCOHost.  Indexes both scholarly sources and popular magazines.  Many full-text sources.

Reader's Guide Abstracts:  Index of articles from popular magazines (Time, Newsweek, etc.)

CIS and Congressional Publications: Guide to locating and using the microfiche collection of Congressional Information Service (CIS).  This includes Congresional and Senate hearings, committee reports, and House and Senate journals.

First part of volume one contains information on 1600+ international organizations; extensive coverage of United Nations and  related agenices;  articles on major organizations including WTO (World Trade Organization), European Union, NATO.  The remainder of the volume, plus volume two contain articles on countries of the world--political, economic, social, commercial information.

How to Research Elections       REF JK 1976 M37 (2000)

 

International Financial Statistics  REF HG 61 I57  (latest ed.)  Published by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) monthly with an annual cumulation, it provides detailed financial statistics of the countries in the world.  Contains "country pages" and "world tables."  Data include exchange rates, money and banking accounts, interest rates, etc.

Political Handbook of the World REF JF 37 P6 (latest edition)  Essential political information about countries. 

Statistical Abstract of the United States  HA 202 A32 (Reference stacks, Reference desk
and 3rd floor computer lab).  Collection of economic, social and political statistics pertaining to the U.S. gathered from government and non-government sources.  Footnotes at end of each table give source of data.
