Eric
A. Dieckman- Linux and LaTeX
I run Linux as an operating system on my computers, so I thought I might share a few links that have helped me in the past.
- Ubuntu - the main distro that I use; very nice for beginners, but customizable enough for more advanced users
- Run Linux from a pen drive
- now you can have Linux whatever computer you work on! I have
two different distros: a DSL boot from an old 128mb usb drive, and a
qemu persistent SLAX on a 1gb usb drive
- Slashdot, a great source of all sorts of geeky news (including Linux)
For those of you unfamiliar
with LaTeX, it is pretty much the gold standard in scientific document
processing, especially when it comes to mathematical expressions.
- LaTeX Project Homepage - where it all begins, including downloads for all operating systems
- LaTeX Wikibook - great source of information
- LaTeX Beamer Class - the best way, in my opinion, to give a presentation
- Math into LaTeX by
George Gratzer - my favorite reference book when it comes to LaTeX.
I would suggest buying a copy (ISBN0817641319), but I have also found a shortened pdf version online.
