HTLH 195: Lifetime Health and Fitness
ES 190 : Introduction to Exercise Science
The purpose of this course is to integrate material from human physiology, psychology, sociology, and nutrition to present an interdisciplinary framework for disease prevention and health promotion. The course focus is to promote a behavioral lifestyle change in which students integrate into their lives patterns of physical activity, health, and well-being. NOTE: This course in conjunction with HLTH 196 fulfills the Personal Well-Being requirement of the Liberal Studies Program.
This course will explore parenting from getting pregnant to raising children utilizing the viewpoints of health and exercise sciences, biology, finance, religion, psychology, sociology and philosophy.
The goals of this course are to…
1. Examine parenting from the viewpoint of many disciplines.
2. Analyze a variety of parenting styles/issues based on religious beliefs, personal philosophies and current culture.
3. Practice selected parenting techniques.
4. Develop and refine writing and communication skills
Through this course students will be introduced to the core components of exercise science including functional anatomy, aerobic and anaerobic metabolism, fitness concepts, and more. Students will also discover what career options are available and through personal development activities discern what careers fit their interests and strengths. Time will also be spent learning and practicing skills related to communicating with clients.
