Paper on UFOs

Here are two options for paper topics concerning UFOs.

1. What if UFOs are alien spacecraft?

Imagine what it would take to have convincing evidence that UFOs actually were alien spacecraft visiting us. You should address at least these two questions:

• What minimal evidence would convince reasonable people that flying saucers are real? (In other words, not something as blatantly obvious as a saucer landing on the White House lawn.) Make up an example.
• What effect would this discovery have on the credibility of science as an institution? After all, mainstream science has not encouraged UFO research, and generally scoffed at flying sucer beliefs.

2. Abductions

A roommate or friend decides to confide in you about an alien abduction experience. She tells you about an episode of "missing time,'' about recent difficulties in sleeping and in human relationships. She then says she has started to visit a hypnotherapist, and has begun to recover memories involving small grey aliens with large eyes entering her room at night, moving through walls, and then bringing her aboard a UFO where they conduct disturbing probes of her, with sexual overtones. How would you respond to this story? Would you find it credible or not?
