G. Victoria Landrum
Assistant Professor, Interdisciplinary Studies/
Research Coordinator, McNair Scholars Program
Welcome to the webpage for Prof. Vicki Landrum. As a faculty member at Truman State University, I've designed this site to introduce myself to the TSU community. It is a privilege and honor to have been selected to work among the many talented and dedicated individuals of our institution. I am looking forward to meeting new colleagues and students throughout the coming academic year.
In terms of background info, I'm a native Chicagoan from the Hyde Park-Kenwood community on the South Side, with interests in both the social sciences as well as the visual arts. My training in psychological theories of normative lifespan development, individual differences and achievement motivation respectively
evolved from a general curiousity about what specific factors inspire some people to excel and ultimately choose the academic profession. My most recent research focuses on understanding how organizations engage in decisional behavior surrounding the recruitment of individuals into the professoriate: Who is chosen? How? Why? For further details, please visit my website located at The Study of Visual Art and Design Academicians.
My responsibilities at Truman State University encompass academic and administrative tasks related to undergraduate teaching, academic advising for student research, coordinating summer research programs, and serving as managing editor of the "McNair Scholarly Review". These include the following roles:
As an assistant professor in the Division of Social Sciences, I teach Junior Year Interdisciplinary Seminars (JINS) courses. During the current academic year, they will focus on the special topic of "Decision Making" and its
attendant
processes: individual, small group, organizational, and political. The seminars will examine theoretical models of decisional behavior from various psychological, sociological, organizational management, political, and ethical perspectives.
As the Research Coordinator for the McNair Scholars Program, I work with students who aspire for advanced degree studies in various fields, as preparation for entry into the academic profession. These McNair Scholars will engage in an array of undergraduate, pre-doctoral projects and activities designed to further develop their repertoire of skills in such specific areas as: designing and planning empirical research, collecting and analyzing data, and then, writing effectively about their results.
Additional descriptive listings of upcoming JINS courses for the Fall 2007 semester including those taught by other faculty members are currently available online -- simply click on JINS courses to view them. General information about the Interdisciplinary Studies Program also may be found at our campus website.
Please don't hesitate to telephone or email me if you have questions about the JINS courses on decision-making or the McNair Scholars Program. Have a great semester ahead!
