Korean Mathematics is the English translation of a Korean arithmetic series used for grades 1-6 in the national curriculum of Korea in 1993-1996. The translations were produced with permission from the Korean Ministry of Education. Block Learning and Conceptualization: Foundations of Korean Mathematics In Korean Mathematics, constructs are built on a foundation of blocks. As each function is introduced, its relation to previously learned mathematics functions is developed. Concepts are developed in-depth all in one place. Procedures are tied to the underlying mathematical principles. For example, division is learned in Grade 2-2. During this lesson, the previously learned concepts of dividing into equal parts and repeated subtraction are used to develop a focus on the inverse relationship between multiplication and division. Teacher’s Manuals Each level of Korean Mathematics contains a concise manual to guide teachers through 9 or 10 units of instruction on 5 domains recommended by the NCTM as important school content. Each unit or chapter contains 6 to 10 fully developed lessons.
