11/17/09 The template for the vitamin C report is available on ChemLab.Truman, as is an example of a lab report.  There is also an extensive how-to guide on writing lab reports available on ChemLab.Truman.  Note that this guide includes topics that are more appropriate for advanced classes.  You may ignore these, but if you are unsure about what you should include, please see me or e-mail me your questions.
11/16/09 Here is the PDF version of the take-home questions for exam 2.

Exam 2 will cover all of stoichiometry, reactions in solution, gases and thermodynamics.  This corresponds to chapters 1 through 7 and chapter 19 sections 1 through 5.

The laboratory exercise for this week is calorimetry.  Pay particular attention to the theory and how the problem is addressed; it will be good practice for the exam.

After we get back from Thanksgiving break, you will be performing the kinetics exercise.  Be sure to read the chapter on kinetics thoroughly and work problems from the book and from the web page before lab.  This exercise will give you an excellent example of how a basic chemical kinetics experiment is done.

11/2/09 For the data analysis of the compound X titration, we will not be analyzing the pooled data for the class as a whole. Just calculate the average molar mass, the standard deviation in the molar mass and the uncertainty for the average at 95% confidence.

Exam 2 will be pushed back to 11/20, which means the Take-Home portion will go out 11/13.  I hope to finish lecturing on thermodynamics either Thursday or Friday.  I will have a set of problems for you to work on tomorrow.  We will go over these problems and the gas law problems next week whenever I'm finished with thermodynamics.  Once we have finished the problems, we will move on to kinetics and then to equilibrium.

10/02/09 Click here for a PDF version of the take-home questions for exam 1.
10/02/09 There has been a change in the results for the Wednesday lab and the Excel file available on the laboratory web page has been updated.
09/09/09 I've updated the laboratory grading rubric because I forgot to add something to the list and because I can't add.
09/02/09 We will be covering statistics in class, instead of lab.  If you'd like the lecture notes, they are available on the class lecture page. We will still meet in the laboratory (MG 1029) at the regularly-scheduled times next week.  I will go over lab protocols, review safety and discuss what is expect of you in the laboratory and in your lab notebooks.
