Graph Evaluation Rubric

Graphs will always be worth 5 points.
I will holistically assign a score on how well a graph meets the criteria given
below. A score of 5 will be assigned to a graph that meets most, if not
all, of the criteria, while scores of 1 to 4 will be assigned based on how many
of the criteria are met. A score of 0 will be given when a required graph
is not present. For more information on graph preparation see
ChemLab.truman.
A graph that receives a score of 5 will have most, or all,
of the following characteristics
- Clear and easily understandable
-
- No grid lines
-
- No colored background
-
- Both axes are properly labeled, which includes the
quantity appearing on the axis and
its units
-
- Proper significant figures on the axis tick marks
-
- Proper scaling on both axes
-
- A descriptive title that allows a reader to easily
understand what the graph shows (notebook only, it is replaced by a
figure caption in a laboratory report)
-
- Properly used legend
-
- Equation displayed on graph (only required in the
notebook, should not be present in graphs presented in a laboratory
report)
-
- Appropriate fonts
-
- Proper use of symbols and lines
