On September 20, 2003 I competed in the 2nd Annual Heartland Challenge Strongman Contest.  I competed in the over 225 lbs. division and placed sixth out of eight competitors.  I was out of my league in this competition, but I completed all the events and had a good time.

Here are all the heavy weight competitors.  The overall winner was
the fourth guy from the right, Dave Ostlund.

The weights at this competition were insane.  The first event was the
Farmer's Walk for distance.  We competed with 260 lbs. in each hand.  I placed
fifth in this event with a walk of 53 feet.

The second event was a tire flip for time (60 second time limit).  My
weightclass used a 600 lbs. tire.  It took about 5 flips to complete the course of 60 ft.
I placed sixth in this event as well.  I don't know what my time was, but it was less
        than 60 seconds.

The third event was a "log" lift for reps.  The listed weight was 225 lbs., but
I was either already wiped out or the log was just too awkward for me to handle
because I only did one rep.  Sixth place again.  I tweaked my back a little in this event.

The fourth event was probably my best.  We did a "Hercules Hold" with
300 lbs. on a 3 inch diameter barbell.  I placed fifth in this event with a time a little over
          53 seconds.

The fifth event was the Conan's Wheel, loaded with a nicely modified
motorcycle.  The apparatus weighed in at about 700 lbs.  I suprised myself first by
picking the thing up and then by taking the wheel for a little over a 1/3 revolution.
          Sixth place again.

The last event of the day (finally!!) was a semi pull, hand-over-hand style.  The
event was for time, but not many competitors completed the pull.  I missed completing
the pull by 5 or 6 feet (out of 80 feet).  I'm not sure where I placed, but it was
          either fifth or sixth
