TSU Social Science/History Faculty Research Seminar

Truman's historians have launched a faculty research seminar and we invite you to join us. Every month, one person will present a paper which participants will read in advance and come prepared to discuss. These papers may include a conference presentation or an article a faculty member is preparing for publication. This is an opportunity to learn about other faculty members' research projects, engage your colleagues in intellectual conversations, and also gain feedback on your own research. You are welcome to attend all presentations, or only those which interest you.

Normally we will meet at 3:30 pm on the second Monday of every month in Rm#4 of the SUB. The following presentations are scheduled for this spring:

Monday, February 14, 2000: John Ramsbottom, "Widows and Poor Relief in Early 18th century London"

Monday, March 13, 2000, 5 pm (note different time): Marc Becker, "The Politics of Exclusion: Ecuador's Glorious May Revolution of 1944"

Monday, April 10, 2000: Dan Mandell, "The Rev. Gideon Hawley of Mashpee, the American Revolution, and the shift in the Anglo-American image of Eastern Indians"

Monday, May 8, 2000: Lynn Vacca, "A New Deal for Labor? The 1933 Ambridge Steel Strike"

We will distribute papers a week in advance of the presentation. If you would like to attend a presentation, contact Marc Becker (marc@truman.edu) for a copy of the paper. If you have questions about this seminar or would like to present a paper in the future, contact Marc Becker at x6036, marc@truman.edu, or drop me a note in my mailbox in the Social Science Division.
