This is my dog, Mercy, a custom-bred Black Licker (also known as the American Love Hound). beautiful dog

My past includes New York City, Hunter College High School, Saltaire (Fire Island), the University of Michigan, the Université de Provence (France), the U.S. Peace Corps, the Université Hassan II (El Jadida, Morocco), the Ecole Normale Supérieure (Rabat, Morocco), the Xinhua News Agency (Beijing), sunny Brownsville (Texas), and the University of Texas at Austin. Unfortunately, moving around so much, I haven't been able to keep up with a lot of people I care about. If you suspect you might be one of these, please get back in touch!

I'm now an Assistant Professor of Linguistics at Truman State University in Kirksville, MO. This is a good thing to be. Please read this if you're tempted to ask "What does a linguist do?" or "How many languages do you speak?"

Mostly, I teach:
  • Spring 2000:
  • Topics in Sociolinguistics: Language and Ethnicity
  • Language and Learning
  • Modern Grammar
  • Advanced Linguistics: Morphology
  • Advanced Linguistics: Historical
  • Topics in Sociolinguistics: Language and Gender
  • At UT-Austin, maybe someday at TSU: The Languages Of Science Fiction

  • I crochet, too! And play piano! Are you impressed yet?
