ATTENDANCE POLICY

Once upon a time there was a notion called “Common Sense.”  I have a common sense attendance policy:  Attendance is mandatory.  In a class that meets once a week, one absence means missing one week, so don’t miss class.  Sometimes one has a valid reason to be absent from class.  If you are sick or if you have an imperative reason to miss class, contact me in person or via email to let me know.  Please note that there will be quizzes almost every week.  I automatically erase the three lowest grades on the quizzes.  While this is, by no means, an encouragement to miss three classes during the semester, it allows you to miss a few classes without a penalty.  There will be, however, no make-up time for Tests, and no extension for the Term Paper requirements, unless you have an imperative reason to miss a class such as, but not limited to, illness or death in the family.  Remember, however, that it is entirely up to the faculty member to decide what is a valid reason to miss class and what is not!
