Ever wonder what kinds of math problems people work on in industry? This talk will be about an interesting problem I worked on as a mathematical modeler for my student internship in the 1980's. The discussion will include the basic steps in the development of the model, the associated mathematics and the practical results. The talk will be geared for students who would like an introduction to mathematical modeling and/or are making decisions between graduate school versus industry or perhaps graduate school in math versus graduate school in a math-related field.
