Great scenes in movies (in no particular order):

The arrival of Omar Sharif at the well in Lawrence of Arabia. No music, no cuts, one continuous shot (several minutes) of Sharif arriving from in the distance.

The chariot race in Ben-Hur. Again, no music, only the sound of chariots, horses, and falling bodies at full speed. It runs about 13 minutes of mayhem.

Orson Welles' first appearance in The Third Man.

The Dance Scene from Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

The underwater scene where Pinocchio is searching for Gepetto.

The opening scence in Fargo. Pure white, with a gradually emerging image of a tow truck from the haze of deep winter. Few images, aside from the many others in Fargo, evoke the nature of winter in the northern US.

The final chase scene between Wallace, Gommit, and the evil penguin in The Wrong Trousers. Never has the cartoon cliche of the toy train been done so well.

In Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf confronts the Balrog on the bridge in the Mines of Moria. It continues in the initial scenes of The Two Towers Computer animation at its absolute best, seamlessly integrated with live actors. The Balrog is looks like a creature from the deep underworld of the mine, with a body and limbs of glowing embers, and a flame whip.
