Course Description

Sacred Sites in Greece was a six-credit, Study Abroad course.  The course traced the shift over several centuries of several varieties of religious worship, including goddess worship and Christianity, in the Greek world.  Students focused on understanding sacred sites such as Delphi, Delos, and Epidaurus within their archaeological, economic, historical, military, and social context.

Twenty-one students took this course, our largest group yet.  This year, we added a trip to Mykonos and the sacred island of Delos, birthplace of Apollo.

In August of 2003, we had a reunion and photo contest.  The first photo above, taken on Mykonos by Kate Sutter, won first prize.  The second prize photo, a sunset on the sea captured by Corie Hufford.  The third prize photo by Samantha Gilbert is set in the National Cemetery in Athens.
