Editing the 008 field

You can edit the 008 field directly by placing the cursor in the proper position and keying the code. The program will not warn you of errors, however, and will save the record with improper codes if you make a mistake.

For most purposes, then, you will want to expand the 008 field and edit each position using the cells and pull-down menus GUIcat provides. To expand the 008 field:

1. Place the cursor anywhere in the 008 field
2. Right-click with your mouse
3. Select Expand field

3. Select Unexpand field

1. Move the cursor to anywhere in the 008 field
2. Press Ctrl-e

The field will also automatically collapse when you save the record.

To navigate in the expanded field, use [tab], [shift]-[tab], or the arrow keys.

When editing in the expanded field, always tab out of a cell before collapsing or saving the record. If you fail to tab out of an edited cell, GUIcat will not save your changes.
