Creating a Template for an Item Record
- Select File.
- Select Template.
- Select New Template.
- Select Item.
A blank item template window will open:
- Edit the fixed fields to values that you will commonly use. You will
at least need to enter values in those fixed fields that read, "Error."
You can make whatever changes suit you, and you can make multiple
templates with various settings. Here,
though, are some suggestions for your first item record template.
- When you have finished editing the fixed fields, add prompts for some
variable fields.
- Move the mouse pointer just below the table of fixed fields
until the pointer becomes a vertical insertion point.
- Click. You will get a blinking cursor at the beginning of a blank
line.
- Enter the labels for the variable fields for which you would like
to be prompted. Here are some examples:
- 050 to be prompted for a LC call number
- B to be prompted for a barcode (III will ask you whether
you would like it to perform duplicate checking. It
makes no difference whether you say yes or no.)
- V to be prompted for a volume
You can enter multiple prompts: Just press Enter to move the
cursor to a new line, or right-click and select Insert
field.
- Click the "Save record" icon. (It looks like a blue diskette.)
