Motivation Theory (Attribution)—feedback on assessments can influence students’ self-perceptions. It is my duty to see how students interpret and use the feedback on their academic performance to help with their motivation for succeeding in this class. I try to give feedback consistently.

Notes on constructivism

Prior Experience—most students have experienced a constructivist classroom setting either as a student or observer of a classroom. Relying and probing this prior knowledge assists with transfer of learning and information processing since all learning involves transfer from previous experiences.

listen to miss daisy and have them identify examples of constructivism

Miss daisy tape and tape recorder

Sensory Input—99% of what we learn is sensory. In an attempt to give auditory learners an opportunity to have auditory stimulus, students listened to a tape from a storyteller about a classroom.

2:30-2:50

Divide them into 2 groups and have ½ the group go to one station on air and the other go to one station on music and abstract ideas to concrete.

Handouts for each station. Station 1—gluesticks, paper, popsicle sticks

Station 2—windbags, kiwis, magnetic stars and balls, pumice rock, dwiddle, car and ramp

Abstract—at station 1, students were asked to think about two abstract ideas that are opposite and then create a visual image for those two ideas with two different colors of paper. Transfer is enhanced when students can represent problems at higher levels of abstraction, which aids in learning.

Constructivism—station 2 required students to work in cooperative learning groups and construct knowledge based on scientific principles. Constructivism means learners must individually discover and transform complex information to make it their own.  Emphasis on constructivism came from Piaget and Vgotsky when they realized that cognitive changes take place when there is disequilibrium.
